RAW on 1 card, and Jpeg fine on the second card.

So you can download the contents of one card. If you want to offload just the JPEGs, you do so from card 2. If you want to offload just the NEFs, you do so from card 1.

This way, you can give someone a copy of the JEPGs at the end of the shoot, and not have to worry about sifting through JPGs and NEFs. Then, you download the NEFs onto your computer for editing.

Michael, I use to use it for viewing images I had captured on my Ipad. It was fun at first but moved away from it and use the second card as an overflow for RAW. It can be useful if you want to view the images on a larger screen, kind of like using the wifi for a camera or a wifi card.

Also, for the wifi cards they have to be in jpeg format or you will wait forever for them to transfer RAW files, so its a plus in that situation if you want to review them on another device.

Everyone has their own preference. That specific configuration did not work well with my process so I changed it and placed both files on the same card except for videos.

Having both files (jpg basic small + RAW) on the same card allows them to be transferred to my PC with the same file name in the same folder. I use the jpg to preview the image and use the NEF files for editing.

Nothing wrong with either method, just more of a personal preference.

If my wife and I come home from a family event, I have about 10 minutes before I get "are the pictures ready?". This repeats until the pictures are ready. It is good to have a card of jpegs to hand her. I've learned to not worry if the grandparents and facebook friends don't get my best shots.

My wife asked me the same. Now she knows that waiting a bit longer the photos are a bit better. I just showed her the difference detail out coming. Now she likes printing photos too

Jpegs if the last thing you want to do after getting home is any PP, when you can just upload quick shots directly to web for quick viewiing.

I help run a pinball show, and one of the things I do is walk around every now and then and grab pictures and throw them on Facebook. I don't have time to do photo editing while the show is happening, so I could do the RAW+JPG thing, upload the JPGs, then have the RAWs for later processing. (I actually use our point and shoot camera to do this job, not the D7000, but you were looking for a valid reason to do RAW + JPG.)

I find work gets in the way of my enjoyment of photography, Last week I worked 6 days, Monday to Saturday, Sunday off, and this week Monday to Friday.
As we know editing pictures is not a 2 minute job, so having Jpegs on the second card, lets me send friends and family a quick photo, then work on the RAW file when I have the time.
