Question on Zoom of SB-700

Recently found that wheneve the wide-panel deployed, the zoom level would not adjust automatically. The user manual mentioned that it should adjust to "1x" mm automatically. However, when the diffuser dome mounted, it adjust to "1x" mm automatically. Is it normal for SB-700?

According to the SB-700 manual:
When the built-in wide-flash adapter is used or the
Nikon Diffusion Dome is attached (p. 27), the zoom-head position is
automatically set to match a 14mm or 17mm lens.
So it is supposed to stay at the wide angle with the dome or pull out.
(this function was verified with a SB-800)

On the underside of the flash head is a switch the defuser dome actuates so it will not zoom. Maybe the switch is bad or the dome is bowed in that area.
