I was so tempted that I offered to purchase a Afs 50 mm f1.8 lens to try out. The seller couldn't meet today and I am busy tomorrow.

I should hold and try shooting at both 35 and 50 mm using my kit lens to see if I can work around that kind of range.

Thank you guys

Ok guys, I just cant wait. I got hold of the Nikon AF 50 mm F1.8. This lens has got an aperture ring that range from 22 to 1.8.

When I set it to 22, I can take photo from my D300. However, if I set it down lower, the LED screen on top show fEE.Am I suppose to lock it at f22?

I managed to figure it out. The aperture ring on the lens has to be fixed at F22 and the control will be from the camera setting. This aperture ring is for manual setting should I add an extension tube with no electrical contacts. Please tell me if I got this wrong.

I will be trying out the lens tomorrow. While we are at lenses. I am looking into replacing my existing lenses and wish to get some advices.

1st, I am thinking of replacing my kit lens (18-105 mm) with either the Toknia 11-16 mm or the Sigma 17-55 mm. I think I may need both but should be able to live with the 11-16 mm first.

2nd, I would like to change my 70-300 to 70-200 f2.8. I am not shooting zoom much and I think 200 is good for DX camera. Even if I decide to shoot further, adding an extension tube and bring up the F2.8 to 4 is still reasonable.

At the end of the day, I will end up with Toknia 11-16, Sigma 17-55, Nikon 50 and Sigma 70-200.

What do you guys think and would you consider what I am thinking? I think this Nikon 50 mm, f1.8 is something you guys would have considered if you have my current set up.

I think you got it right.

And your end of the day lens choice could let you do almost anything with quality image. But if I was you, I'd try to keep the 18-105 for days when you just want to take a hike with the camera and do not want to carry other lenses. I'm not sure of what the value of the 18-105 would be on the used market, but I'd probably keep the 18-105, start by getting the 50 1.8, then the 11-16, than replace your 70-300 with the 70-200 2.8 and only last I'd get the 17-55 2.8.
My two cents.

Hi, I now have the 18-105, 50 & 70-300. If I have a chance to select my lenses, I am most likely to buy the following lenses.

1) Tokina 11-16
2) Tomron 17-50 f2.8
3) Sigma 70-200 f2.8 VC

It is still good to hold on the the 50 f1.8. I will make good use of my current lenses but will look out for the above. In fact the Toknia is not that crucial unless I shoot alot of group or landscape.

It is always nice to look at various options since it don't cost money just looking.
