Hello fellow imagemakers. I just got my 7100 yesterday. Do both SD cards have to be the same? Such as do they both have to be the same GB and speed in order to function properly?
I have a D7000 and in the slots are not the same SD cards. One is Extrem PRO a 32 GB, 45MB/s the other is a 16 GB, 30MB's Sped. Works perfectly for me.
No need for them to be the same but one can effect the other depending on what you have them allocated for,if you shoot raw say and have the number 2 card as back up then the camera will only empty the buffer as fast the slowest card will allow.
I agree that they do not have to be the same BUT I really like for mine to be so that if there is a problem with one card then the other is the same size and speed. I tend to rotate my cards between the slots every so often also. Does that make any difference? I have no idea but it can't hurt and it spreads out the wear and tear on the cards would be my guess.
I did read some where that the buffer is cleared at the speed of the slower of the two cards. Other wise there is no restriction as such on the size and speed of each card.
