Setting FN1 button, and noticed both AF Area Mode and AF Area Mode + AF On. I have AF-On button set up for back focus.

What is the difference in the two modes?

Thanks.

If you set that button to AF Area mode only. It will change the AF area to the one chosen in the menu when you 'right arrow' to program that button.
If you choose AF Area Mode + AF On, it will change the focus area and initiate auto focus. Your AF-ON back button focus will not be affected if you choose AF Area Mode + AF On.

Here is a little tip for you that might be beneficial. When you are creating settings in the camera like this one, for example, when you choose the Fn1 button, it will give you a menu of choices. Highlight a menu item and then press the "?" button on the left of the live view screen. It will sometimes tell you what that option means. Sometimes, the verbage is confusing like in the manual, but most of the time, it will tell give you good information just like the manual. Full discolure, that is what I just did to tell you what those options meant. 😁
