My one regret with photography would be my 50mm 1.8. Don't get me wrong, it's a great lens, but the fact is I almost never use it. Every time I put it on, it's just too long. I should've gotten the 35mm instead. I often consider trying to sell it to buy the 35mm. Of the ~20,000 pictures in my database, only about 700 use that lens. Even my 11-16 mm Tokina, which I've had less than half as long, has 1,149 pictures in my database.

Of course, I carry the thing around like I'm going to pop it on the camera at any moment... at least it doesn't weigh much!

Cheap tripod and my nikon 55-300. Sold the lens earlier this month. As for the tripod, I still own that but never use it. I've been looking at the manfrotto but have been informed that Christmas is close and Santa may bring everything I want.
Well I very much doubt Santa is going to bring me that nikon 17-35 f2.8 I so desire (not even sure nikon sell in Lapland and if it's made by an elf it's not going to have a warranty). Sorry got of topic there.

@sonicbuffalo I was browsing around talkeemount forum and saw some of your stuff/posts. How are you liking the A7 and the full frame E mount glass? I agonized over the recent system switch still have the heart of my Maxxum A mount collection but really did not like the LA -EA2 combo....and couldn't afford the E mount glass....felt the LA-EA4 combo would present the same compromises...

That said I think the Sony full frame E mount gear is the bees knees! I think those Sony f4 bits you have in your signature should be fantastic?

I took the A7 on our last cruise.....and enjoyed it tremendously....the size of it made it ideal for a vacay. I am waiting on the soon to be released 16-35 wide angle Zeiss lens, which will put me as close as I need to be as having a trinity of zooms. The lenses are expensive, but the sharpness more than makes up for it. Yesterday I was practicing using back button focus, and I was surprised it did so well. I just wished there was a forum like this one to be able to post more. I will post more in the near future in the non-Nikon section. I know the Sony has it's limitations but I'm sure one hurdle it will jump rather quickly will be the fps. There's no need to wait for the mirror to clear before taking a picture. I also love the EVF on the Sony. All being said, I love the reduced size of the FF e mount. I've already paid for the 16-35, and for architecture, it should be great. I have read some reviews on the lens, and while it's not as sharp as the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, it doesn't have the size limitations either. I also can put a filter on it, which is ordered too. Thanks for asking, and if you have any more questions to ask about the Sony, feel free to ask. I'm not sure if I have answered your question fully.

Buying a 50mm. Yes, i know that statement is heresy to some, but contrary to popular belief, not everybody 'needs' one. I for one don't!

LOL! Amazing how fast the topic gets off track. :)

Anyway...back to Purchases you regret buying......for me, it was the 70-300 non VR lens, AND the 55-300. Got rid of both of them. They just seemed useless to me. Not practical at all for what I was shooting.

I guess to get back on topic (sorry for asking SB how he liked his new gear :( ) I would have to put the NEX 6 into my shouldn't have bought category.

Ultimately the NEX 6 failure to satisfy me entirely drove me back to Nikon.....

I have two regrets, First would be my Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5 - 5.6 lens. Some of you would swear by this lens and more than likely you're shooting FX. But not on a DX camera. At 300mm on a cloudy day it gets real dark fast and the ISO has to be cranked up. The lens coating has a scratch in it from where I missed putting the lens cap on in a hurry, but does not show up in any photo's. With the scratch in it I think I have no hope on selling it, (unless someone here is interested?) so I'm holding on to it for now. Maybe someday if I go full frame FX I should be able to use it with better results.
My other regret is buy a D3000 on the advice of Ken Rockwell (enough said) but I did learn a lot from this camera and also this how I found "Nikonites" so it was not a total waste.

My only regret is when I bought my SB-700. I was not into camera forums or local groups. Well kind of, I was on Nikonians, then they got greedy and made it mandatory to be a PAYING member to participate in forums, haven't been back since.

I had no idea Yongnuo existed at the time. I wanted a flash and that was the cheapest bounce flash Nikon made at the time. $326 was a lot to swallow, but I thought it was what it was.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I have it, but I would have certainly gone with a Yongnuo TTL if I knew about them.

Like one of the early posts my main regret was getting the Nikon 55-200 lens when I bought my D3200. It wasn't even the latest VR version and I ended up virtually giving it away to a friend after a few months. In fact I regret not knowing more about the D3200 kit I was buying from Curry's. I knew the 55-200 wasn't VR but assumed the 18-55mm would be the latest version, which it wasn't. I now know a lot more about lens terminology and won't make the same mistake again. There's a reason why Curry's prices were better than elsewhere and that's because they use the bundles to get rid of old lenses that they most likely couldn't sell otherwise.

I have a very cheap tripod but don't regret that so much, as I don't use it often at all and when I do its performed what I've needed. Will make sure when I do buy an upgrade it will be well researched and the best that I can reasonably afford.
