Rick, these are all so very good... I like the expressions (some are no expression) and I sit and look and ask what that person was thinking at that moment...

I assume, most know you are shooting??

What distance/lens??

Do you ask permission or are you back enough to just snap??? I know, bunch of nosey questions! I will have more too!

I shoot with a D5100 with a 70-300mm F/4.5
I am between 4 feet and 15 feet from the people for all the shots.
I am out in the open and they do see me shooting them.
I do not get releases as I am shooting in public and therefor they are not needed.
My spot where I shoot is on a sidewalk in Hollywood, CA. I lean against a wall for support and shoot as people walk towards me. Looking one direction I am about 15 feet from the corner with a crosswalk and the other direction I have the length of the block as people walk towards me. Typically I am in open shade for soft lighting.

Rick, thank you so much for sharing your technique... I will not be making a career out of it but I would like to try it someday.. just to be able to say I did (and learn something!)

Braadwahh I wish I could be there to see it but alas I am stuck in dusty Oklahoma until I win the lottery...

Well, I snapped some shots while in the vote line this morning... won't know if I really gvot anything usable till I get home.. issues were:
a: Not close enough for many (suspect crop may take out sharpness) I only have 200mm and sort of stuck in line..
b: Not too sure how the focus is.. (which could really kill a: :) Most were moving and not as close as yours..

Hey, you cannot learn if you do not try right?? :)

I learned even if they all fail.... and will practice more.... Thanks for sharing your photos and your techniques..
