So I've a question, Rick. When you're doing street photography do you openly take these photos or do you do it unnoticed. And if/when the subjects do see you taking these images, do you talk to them or ask them for signed releases? I've a pile of street photos and I love the look but I get uncomfortable taking them, especially when the subject realizes I'm photographing them. Any hints you can offer?

I can relate. I don't like having my photo taken because America's Most Wanted is such a popular show. :chargrined:

I openly shoot these. I get in a spot where the people can see I'm shooting. I find someone who interests me and focus in on them and then just watch them through the camera until I get a great expression or eye contact.

Sometimes people just give me a smile or a nod, sometimes they ask what I'm doing. I've made a book of about 20 images (with the help of Staples Office Supply) and I bring it along. I show them the book and tell them about the project. If they want I email them images of themselves. I bring biz cards with the site and also my flickr acct where I post the images daily so they can look at themselves or more.

It's never been a negative issue or problem.

Very much so. Also knowing they can look on Flickr and see themselves if they want.

There have only been a couple of instances that people have asked me not to shoot them since I've been doing this project starting Jan. 1, 2012.

This is the first page of my sample book that I show people when I'm shooting and they ask what I'm doing/shooting. I had posted this a while ago on the site but there may be new people who have not seen it and it helps to answer the questions for those of you who wonder about how I shoot people (without making people angry or uncomfortable) and how I explain to them what I'm doing and why.

Rick, I like all three of these. I like the picture and the fact that the background is not busy. Jeff

Look at those peepers!

I think she was a little bit camera shy did she ever make eye contact with you?
