You should see his basement "studio"! This is one guy that's got it together! Very innovative guy. :)

Jack, I do not doubt that!! That is the type of stuff I need to do myself!! One of the reral advantages of this forum to us "rookies" is I can ask these questions and I get reall helpful informative answers!!!

Maybe I will have to go back and ask him to post some photos's of his studio!!

Aw come on now Jack. It's an old basement with an old table and lights. It's really nothing. Don't get anyone's hopes up. Now I'm going to have to clean it  LOL

I'll make a 365 out of it tonight, got nothing in mind for today anyhow and I'm working late today so it will fit right in for me.

I don't mind sharing. A lot of what I have learned is from other members here. Then what I'll do is go out on the Web and try to find out more information. Gather up all things in common and try to make things work with common items I can easily acquire.

Really nothing to it, Yeah it might not look pretty and I got to watch myself how I move around because of all the wiring I got for all three lights and three tripods, but it works.

WOW! You got that much saved already? I'm nowhere near that much yet in my NAS fund! I'd like to get myself an 11-16 some day, so I just have to keep socking away the pennies. Either that or win the lottery, whichever comes first. :)

Well I have more than that saved (I hope) but I don't know how much. A lot depends IF I get a year end bonus and IF I get a favorable Tax return this year. I get a percentage of each all to my self, but that percentage is dictated by outstanding bills at year's end. This was NOT a good year for us with major home and auto repair. Each time I have to sign another check I have to look and make sure I was not signing it " There goes my NAS fund"

Playing with some numbers late at night when insomnia sets in it looks like I will be able to acquire something this year, but if Nikon comes out with a high end camera in the DX line I might have a fight on my hands or be hoping to split the Lottery with you.:)

Be interesting to see Rick... I have "nothing" and love innovations...

Day 316
Not firing on all cylinders

Trying to use (2) Godox TT560 and (1) SB700 in Commander mode. I can see all three Speedlights firing, but the TT560's are going off just before the SB700, and the shutter is capturing the SB700 flash only. Was able to get the shutter to capture the TT560's but not the SB700. I've tried every combination of flash mode, shutter speed, apertures, and moving the speedlights in different positions and still no luck. Can't get the shutter to capture all three flashes at once. Been at this all day and I have had enough camera's and flashes, so that will explain today photo.

Next step is to get some radio triggers and give up on the fact the Commander mode is not going to work.

Rick, do you have all 3 flashes on the same channel? And what about the A B C settings? Also, your built in camera flash has to be up to set off the flashes, too. Just wondering.

I would have to set it up again and see. I been all over the place with settings so looking right now I don't know if the settings I left on the camera and flashes were the one that worked.

I know for sure that I was in this setting, not sure on the groups, but I can tell you changing groups in camera had no effect on the out come because it was all tried, I think.

D90
f/8
1/60th second
Commander mode:
Built in flash = -- (This should fire off the flashes, ok at least the SB700 for sure)
Group A (? Don't know)
Group B (? Don't know)
Channel 1

SB700
Remote Mode
Group A
Channel 1

Both TT560's
S1 (I would guess this stand for Slave one, my other choice is "S2" and "M")

To save time I lifted this photo off the web of the TT560's
not much of a choice here to chose from as you can see.

Products_TT560.jpg

I did come across a configuration that all three flashes do fire, (ok, they are all working together) but I can almost see by eye the TT560's firing off just before the SB700 and the photo proves it.

I also tried turning and moving all the speedlights so the sensors were facing the camera. No matter how close or far away or apart, I get the same results, the camera is only capturing the SB700's flash no matter where or how the speedlights are placed.

I wish Curt was still active, he has the same flash and I thought he got them to sync up together, but I'm not sure if he did it buy CLS or radio triggers.

I guess in the long run radio triggers will be better, I was just hoping to take advantage of the commander mode for now.

I have three flashes, SB600, SB800, and SB900 and they go off together. The main thing is to have them all on the same channel. The only reason to have them in different groups is so that the power can be adjusted individually. You can have as many on each channel as you want but when you adjust the power all the units in each group will be adjust together as a single group.

The difference is you have three Nikon flashes. I'm using one Nikon, and two third party flashes. I have a feeling this is where my problem is, not all the same brand (in CLS mode). If I can get all three to flash then they have to be on the same channel.

I agree with you. I just wanted to clear up the fact that the channels are the important thing here and that the groups should have no effect on the outcome in firing together and what is causing your problem.
