Primes for Vaca??

I usually take a normal/super-zoom lens for outdoors and a 50mm prime for low light indoor shots, but I would say the 50mm prime usually ended up doing 80% of the work, so yeah, it can be done. Bring a ND filter for the prime so you can shoot wide open shots of the parades and characters! :)

the lens are small enough, and the cargo pants pockets have enough room, then just the lens and caps.

I like this idea. I'm going to take off my grip to minimize size as well and put a prime in my pocket. I was taking pics with my 35mm prime in semi dark conditions and I just love the lens to pieces. I'm really leaning towards the 50mm 1.8g while its on sale.

If you have one, I would bring at least 1 fast lens. You never know what kind of night/low light opportunities you may have. I have never been much of a zoom lens user. I am forcing myself to use the zoom lenses I have. I would take my f/2 35mm; f/1.4 50mm (AIS non-autofocus oldie but goodie), my f/1.8 85mm and the f/2.8 105mm micro-Nikkor. I never travel light. That is a problem I have. :)

Pretty much. I think I would take my 55-200mm zoom, just because it is the longest lens I have. I'm just very partial to primes, especially fast ones. I guess they are like fast cars. I like them, too :)

Thank you. That makes me happy. I'm just getting into primes and I am really happy with their photo quality. I was hoping to be able to use primes more for my style of photography. Most fixed aperture zoom lenses are way out of my price range. I started this as a hobby and then one day I was asked to take photos for these things and I'm scrambling to learn as I go and discover what gear I need.
