Ok, last of the ice shots from today...

Hoping I'll find the chance to get a few more night shots (like the other two I posted, but better composition) tomorrow night. Perhaps I'll venture out and search for just the right shot.

LOVE the ice shots wow that is a lot of ice! Weirdly enough we got freezing ice for a bit today but it just made all the snow shiny and walkways we shovelled slippery. The ice you captured sure is lovely especially love the icicle bird house, natures jewellery

Dragged myself out, cold and all, to try and catch a few more ice shots at night. Went to the historic downtown section of our little town to start.

Get your kicks on Rt. 66? The focus didn't settle on the highway signs like I was attempting to do, but on the LCD it didn't look quite so fuzzy... ahh well, still a fun shot.

ICE18.jpg

Cool shot of the street lights themselves on Rt. 66.

ICE19.jpg

Looking down Rt. 66, heading east, through the lovely historic downtown of Sapulpa and their Christmas lights. The ice added a nice twinkle here and there.

ICE20.jpg

Cool little tree I spotted with some interesting glow coming from the streetlights and stoplights behind.

B&W shot of the same little tree, backlit by headlights.

Few more night time ice shots... I wandered a bit down the road to get some shots of a cool street light/sign combo, and a close up of each...

ICE23.jpg

The stop light was just too cool with the ice and glow of the lights.

ICE24.jpg

As was the street sign with the stop light glistening off of the icicles.

ICE25.jpg

...then down to Kelly Lane Park for a few B&W's. 1st, a security light behind the trees.

ICE26.jpg

A close up of the rails at the side of the pedestrian bridge.

ICE27.jpg

And the pedestrian bridge itself in the glow of a couple of street lights.

Wow you are brave! Did you put on your ice skates to go out??? I'm too chicken to go out with my camera on the ice unless I have my ice cleats on… Very nice shots especially like the black and whites

The streets and sidewalks weren't that bad, actually, and the only things covered in ice were the elevated things (signs/lights/bridges) for the most part. Watched where I stepped, picked a spot for the tripod, watched where I shot... :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Last ice pic. 1) It's the only pic I shot today... and 2) Most of the ice melted away today with temps in the low 40's and sunshine! The brightness of it all was overwhelmingly beautiful!

Anyway, here it is. A squirrel's nest in the midst of the melting...

Here's one of my son somewhat unwillingly modeling his new jacket and 12 foot Dr. Who scarf (as previously worn by the best doctor, #4)

Not sure how it will turn out as I nabbed it off of FB and am posting it now from my phone. ;) Guess I should have posted it here last night as well, but I was worn out!!

One of my buddies from way down South was in town visiting his family for the holidays, and took the time to shoot a few pics of us since I *rarely* get the chance to be on the other side of the camera. He shot one or two with my camera, then a few more (which I should get in a week or so) with his full frame Sony. The articulated LCD on that thing was CRAZY!!

Tracking my flash (about 5 times a day) and see that it arrived in town this morning at 8:00 a.m. AAAAAAGH! It was probably just an hour too late to go out for delivery today, so now the 2-day agony begins as I know it's SOOOOOO close, but won't ship on the holiday! LOL

Well, all... it's been a grand year, and I've learned SO MUCH from being a member here at the forums. I think I've found a group of truly amazing folks, so I think I'll hang out a bit longer.

At first, I thought I'd compile my fave 10 photos for my last post, but wow. I ended up flagging over 50 photos, and choosing 10 was... a challenge. So, I narrowed it down to my top 3 fave shots for the year. This will be my last post in this thread, as I'll be starting a 365 project tomorrow, so here we go...

1st the 2 runner-up photos:

This one, I printed for a presentation in my first photography class, and I now keep it near my desk. Just a little 4x6, but it snags my attention every time. I had the grand opportunity to practice panning and catching motion, and this picture almost looks 3D at times. I flat out love it! Taken with the kit 18-55 lens.

Then this one was just amazingly beautiful, and was the standout of my "Urban Autumn" self directed project. Shot at night with the nifty fifty, a tripod and a bit of longer exposure. All under a street light.

And now, my all time fave of the year. Probably my fave because it has my boy in it, doing what boys do... combine that with the fact that my dad, his wife, and my wife were there with him, and all in my favorite place in the world, and *POOF*, a fun capture with a million heart strings attached. Definite fave whether it was the "best" pic of the year or not!

Thanks to you ALL for the support and encouragement. Hopefully you've seen my skill improve, and I'm looking forward to wrangling more tips/tricks/techniques out of y'all next year!! See you in my 365!
