Just got LR 5 in the mail today... w00t! BUNCH of meetings lately for the Convoy of Hope though, so not a lot of time to edit and post yet. SOON!

LATE NIGHT testing of LR 5. This isn't the greatest finished project, but it was a fun test...

Be somebody's bright spot today!

I dunno, investing of one's self into others is pretty cool stuff too. ;) Me and a bunch of BACA brothers and sisters get to hang out in the Kids Zone and play with the wee ones!

I love kids. I owned a Day Care Center for 25 years. I actually worked there for two or three years. My whole family has worked with kids in one way or another for ever. My Mom managed the Day Care center for most of those years. My Sister took over and eventually bought the center from me. I still do volunteer work at the local High School but that is mostly for the teachers. Their Tech support is spotty at best so I go in and assist them when I can. This year I am starting as the official (read unpaid) photographer for the 9th Grade Academy section of the high school. Looks like a fun year.

So yes I do invest time in others every chance I get. And you are right, is is pretty great.

Call me easily amazed... tell me it happens every day... but I just can't get over the wonder of the sunrise over the Atlantic. My heart aches when I browse these photos, because I'm here and not there...

Interrupting the gradual release of edited Florida/Vacation photos to post my latest moon shot. This is the near full moon from tonight. Much less DOF than the partial moon phases, for sure, but I feel like this was my best attempt so far due to the focus, correct exposure, and superior editing capabilities of LR 5 over Picasa and some of the other editing programs I was testing. Well, maybe not superior, but easier to figure out and work with. ;)

There are lots more Florida photos I'm still editing, I promise, but it IS a blue moon, after all... (varying definition, 3rd full moon in a 4 moon season) PLUS, the skies are crystal clear, and it's just tough not to get out and shoot new photos...

...and...

What better way to process a blue moon than with a blue filter B&W? :) But WAIT A MINUTE! What's that in front of the moon, messing up the shot!?

Ahh, there's the problem...

Guess I'd better move over and just get a clean shot instead of playing around with all that artsy stuff.

Thanks, Don! Moon shots used to be one of my biggest frustrations, but I think I've nearly got the ol' lunar beauty figured out now.

The only way that I finally got it was hand held with spot metering and spot focus. It nails it every time

Isn't that crazy? I go handheld too. I just can't seem to get a tripod photo of the moon to come out well (yes, I turn the VR off and use a cable release). I approach it differently, though. I still use matrix metering, but then I purposefully underexpose by way of shutter speed. Gonna mess some (next time) with alternating with shutter speed and aperture to see if I can't nail the DOF a bit better, but I've been please with my results so far now that I've figured out my strategy.

Here was my attempt tonight using the spot metering and spot focusing

A little of both. The three I took last night were shutter priority. I'm gonna mess with shutter/aperture together in manual mode tonight.
