Pretzel's learning curve...

Agree with you on #58. When I got my camera I started looking for new and different photos to take and started noticing things I'd likely overlooked everyday because I just wasn't looking for them.

Had some fun opportunities to nab some critters in the front yard, but the day was overcast and I was dodging spring showers. Thinking a little higher ISO so I could get the aperture a little tighter for a bit more depth of field would have helped on a couple. Ahh well, that's why this thread is titled the "learning curve"...

I'd say the butterflies love your flowers!

Yes, that's a 25+ year old banged up practice guitar. Add in a late night and a bored photographer and you get this... More tomorrow.

There we go... had to attempt it about 5 more times, save without thumbs, edit/delete and re-insert, but there's a couple. *wipes brow*

Here's a couple of candid shots from a recent family get together... the 1st was a nice clear snapshot that I feel shows the personality of the folks involved and obviously edited for a "colder" color scheme (I'll go back later and try to crop out the bored kid in the background), the second one I had to slightly increase the exposure, as everyone else was in the sunnier parts of the yard, but these two were in the shadow of the eaves, and I didn't want them to see me metering in and try to pose, etc. :)

In fact... here's a quick (I'm tired after a long day of work) crop, but to me, it seems to lose a bit of the character. What do you guys think?

Too bad I didn't have the freedom to just control the whole environment and tell the youngster to go play his game in the background. ;)

The first one for me definitely.
The kid in the background playing his video-game adds a special something to the shot.

You could crop the left side a little if you'd like

I'm with WhiteLight, I like the first one better. It shows today's culture. That's not the word I was looking for, but I think it fits.

I agree, to me the first one is better... tells a better story, as in the Generation Gap.. Us older folk (I can say that as I am one) get enjoyment from interacting directly with others... and you see that couple laughing and having a good time. The youngster represents a different generation as he intently interacts with his electronic device, oblivious to what is happening around him!

At the aforementioned family gathering, I spent some time taking pictures of random things until people would quit paying attention to me again, as my goal was candid snapshots. ;) Came out with a few to play with, with perhaps a couple a bit on the macabre side of things?

That third shot is creepy.
It is hard to get people not to pay attention to you when you have a camera in your hands.

Not a lot of time for shooting pics, as I was competing in my 1st Scottish games of the year. I set personal records in a few events, tied a personal record in another... and I'm bushed! I did stop to catch a couple of pics of some of the implements we use, though:
