Prayers for my Uncle Ed

My uncle Ed came down with aspirative pneumonia two weeks ago. His condition has waxed and waned for the as 2 weeks but this afternoon he slipped into unresponsiveness. In addition to pneumonia he has now tested positive for the flu. He is in his mid 90's and I am confident that this condition is not one from which he will recover. He went into the US Navy on Dec 8, 1941 and served through WWII, Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1973 as a Captain.

There is no need to respond to this, simply send up prayers for him.

No good news about my Uncle Ed. He continues to deteriorate, his blood O2 saturation continues to fall; it is the 70%'s right now. His lungs are filling with fluid so not only can he not get oxygen to his tissues, he cannot expel CO2. This changes the pH in your blood. The kidneys can compensate by changing what they excrete and retain but as they start to fail, all will be lost.

It is just a matter of time right now. The docs are just keeping him comfortable now.

This is very sad news, Scott. He's lived a lengthy life and certainly did a lot for our country. I will keep your uncle and you in my prayers.
