From the Blue Ridge Parkway, where it starts (or ends, depending on where you started from) in Cherokee NC.

It would be great to have a post processing section , to make this already great forum an even better one for learning.

Sometimes I stumble on something or some process that is simple but makes a big difference and would want to share it.

For example, I took this image from LR into Color efex pro (part of the Nik Collection).
It looked a bit overwhelming with all those leaves. The tree in the center just wouldn't pop. I know there are different ways to achieve this in LR or PS, but I was already in NIK and didn't feel like going back and forth.

A simple solution I stumbled upon was that I added the Graduated Fog. I used low intensity, and placed the fog on the right side of my image to fade out some of those colors to isolate the tree some more.

I played with the "blend" slider so the effect blended in nicely. Kind of like using "feather" in LR or PS.

I also added a very mild setting in the "glamour glow" filter, and added the Graduated Neutral Density filter to lighten up the upper layer some. The sky was a bit too dark . After that I saved it back to LR for some minor contrast and exposure adjustments.

Very artistic...this would be great hanging on a wall! Thanks for posting this, Pete.

I looked for a section for post processing, with author notes like you did with this one, and could not find anything. Perhaps I overlooked it. I really enjoy the post work, as some, but not all, do. I appreciate your comments on how you arrived at your vision of what you captured. That gives me ideas for my work.

Perhaps we will have a special section for Artistic Photography before long...I bet it would be popular!

I love Autumn but the brilliant reds and golds are largely gone and now the russets and browns will prevail until the bitter winds of late November dislodge even these._AAA3853 - Version 2 - 2014-10-24 at 15-32-39.jpg

Really nice. We did part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy about six years ago. Didn't have a camera. I would like to go back some time.
You have to go back Marilynne. It is one of the great drives in America. And leave yourself enough time to take many photos. We drive portions of it at least twice a year.

When you were in LR, did you use the Lens Corrections tab and enable the Lens Profile feature? Especially when I use a wide angle lens, I find the corners sometimes display a little vignetting or sky darkness. Adding the Lens Profile feature corrects it nicely. Nice image! :)

Well, look who's back! How are you Hark?

I have "profile corrections" and "remove chromatic aberrations" set to automatically apply at import into LR.
I used to have "level" set as well, but sometimes it doesn't do it correctly so I just use that manually now.

after going up pretty far and stopping at most of the overlooks on the way (the tree shot was at our last stop), we came back down and took that hard right to go up to the picnic area and had dinner there. the only problem was we had a hard time getting the charcoal going in the grill. but once we did it was a blast. Va has a lot to offer and is light years different from small, compacted, crowded CT. just wish it didn't take 8+ hrs to get there.

My favorite Japanese Maple. The word is that the fence use to surround the entire corner but the owner cut it back so that the neighbors and passerbys could enjoy this magnificent little tree._AAA3939 - Version 2 - 2014-10-29 at 12-53-58.jpg
