Hi Brent , the first was from London up the west coast then across country , passed us , into Yorkshire then up the famous Settle Carlisle line on to Edinburgh, these are day trips The second one from Manchester to Blackpool , for a few hours then again across country , passed us and again the Settle Carlisle line and a loop back to Manchester , also there was another the same afternoon about 3 Crewe and again Settle to Carlisle a few hrs in Carlisle then back to Crewe .
A bit unusual for 3 on the same day , but as summer comes on we get usually two a week , Wednesday and Saturday , these trips are not cheap but always fully booked , the Settle Carlisle line is quite famous going over the Ribblehead Viaduct and up through the North Yorkshire moors , if you google some of these places you may find them interesting

It was a nice day yesterday so I took a drive up to Marion OH to see what kind of action I could find. Four trains in the space of an hour or so, one CSX local & three NS. My little Nikon 1 cameras got to use their shutters a bit. I really like these little N1 cameras. So small & fast.

This guy was smoking like an old Alco. Made me smile. :p

Taken yesterday, CSX F765 crosses the Congaree River at Cayce, SC, Those woodchip hoppers are headed to a paper mill in North Charleston, SC. The bridge behind belongs to NS and carries their mainline between Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA.

Another NS freight running northbound at Marion Ohio. Guess the young lady didn't read the sign. At least she waited for the train to pass before crossing. She thought about running in front, but had second thoughts. I'm very glad she did.

As seen today, NS 191 made a stop at Monetta, SC while grain train 52D (to the right) worked the grain mill. The 52D had NS's Wabash unit in its consist, but it was trailing and I couldn't get a good picture of it.

Thanks nikonpup -- that's a well-written feature. Folks who aren't enamored with trains perhaps don't fully appreciate how darn difficult it is to capture a good shot, facing difficult lighting and uncertain train schedules while respecting property and safety. And when elements come together as you want …… you get just ONE shot. ;) I sometime think that nature photographers face similar challenges.

I was blessed this day with another chance at capturing NS's Wabash "Heritage Unit". Unlike last week, this time she was leading the train and I hit paydirt. A fine looking locomotive from any angle. Yay!

Thank you. I was fortunate to have made a wrong turn in town, as this time I arrived on the sunny side of the train. It was a bit backlit, but not too badly.

I have yet to see the CNJ, CR, Monongahela, NYC, NKP and NS.
