NM derail.jpg

I took this with my Note 5, not a Nikon. These locomotives were involved in a derailment the day before near Deming, New Mexico. I was passing through. Notice the damage to the back engine. Further down the line there were crews trying to clear the wrecked freight cars, but I was driving and didn't get any pictures of that.

When I saw the picture, I thought to myself this has to be close to home. Then I read what you had to say about it. Yep, they had a derailment just east of me a little. It looked pretty bad from the pictures on the news. I never did hear what caused it though.

You sure live in a beautiful part of the country. We drove from NC to California. I took this shot at the rest area east of Deming. I thought it was just a display of old locomotives, but when we passed the derailed freight cars later I realized it was more than that.

Did you happen to see the probably 300+ Union Pacific Locomotives in storage west of Benson, AZ? They are pretty well guarded so it is hard to get in to get pictures, but you can see the long line of them from the interstate.

I stood trackside yesterday on the former SOU main at Fairforest, SC excited to see the signals set for a northbound and happy to finally get a shot here in good light framed by the signal bridge. I was rewarded ...... with one unit rolling merrily along, as if its owner was testing it out. <g>

Taken today in Hendersonville, NC are a handful of shots. Unfortunately, this once busy spot no longer sees train service of any kind on the mainline or branchline which is also seen. Note that the block signals turned "field side" to affirm that they are out of service. Happily the depot survives and houses an excellent HO model railroad.
