The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus train has arrived in Columbia, SC. I was surprised to see a number of circus families, with toy baskets, strollers and little kid bicycles outside of the railcars and with moms and dads playing with their children. The number of people employed in this work astonished me, with hundreds of performers, roustabouts, mechanical personnel, bus drivers and others tending to their many assignments. So sad that this unique way of life is coming to an end.

Two more from yesterday in Columbia, SC, with an NS transfer returning from the CSX yard and two CSX units running light. I'd hoped to get some sort of reflection in the puddle and out of luck got the NS logo.

Ted is that the 4070 GT steam engine in the West 3rd street B&O roundhouse shop? I saw it's first restoration many many moons ago. It will be great to see the old steamer running on the valley line once again.

Nice captures everyone! :encouragement:

I had a friend who worked for the Penn Central. He told me each day they had a different safety rule. When asked by one of the boss's you had to recite the rule. He told me his standard answer was don't get hit in the arse by a locomotive. It's a good rule to live by Chris. You have good reaction time, nice shot.

Nice capture Sandpatch. Extra points for the mid train helper. We don't see helpers here in the flatland's of Ohio.

Today I was over running an errand near the NS mainline in Lewis Center OH. As luck would have it no trains. The MW folks had everything tied up.

Perhaps 20 Years ago Trains Magazine did a story on The Meanest Railroad in South Carolina, covering CSX's former ACL south of Spartanburg which includes a helper district. The area is hilly, but not mountainous, so I was surprised. Coal traffic has been significantly reduced since then, so I'm glad to see coal appear in any volume. These long trains make a mess of downtown traffic in Columbia!

This is the old CCC&StL (Big Four) station in Delaware OH. Still in great condition considering its age. Wish I looked this good. Also found some passenger cars nearby.

I am liking that a LOT. I agree -- it's in very good condition. Looks like it might have housed some Division offices at one time.

As I recall it used to house a flower shop. I hope someone else moves in so it doesn't fall into disrepair. Fingers crossed. Once a building goes downhill it is very hard to bring it back.
