The fine looking turreted depot in Union, SC still stands. The late afternoon light and moon caught my eye here.

You should also post these in the Almost thread. :D

The alternate way to accomplish similar frustration is to fruitlessly wait trackside for hours, then pack it in without success and hear a train pass through minutes later.

FEC publishes a schedule on their web site. While this won't tell you when it will pass, as we know freight is seldom timely, that and observation will get you in the neighborhood.

Driving up I-95 on my way home spot an north bound AmTrak the second engine has a unusual paint scheme. Knowing I never will make the station a Cypress Creek in time, they run at close to 70MPH in that segment, I head for the Deerfield station. In front of me is an FHP so no chance to push it and it looks extremely over cast up the road. About 2 miles south of the exit it start raining. Plan pull into the gas station near the tracks roll the window down and get a shot, but no trees blocking the view. The gates are coming down as the train arrives at the station but go back up, cross the tracks make a u-turn as the gates come back down. Knowing the camera is still set for the earlier shots hit the ISO button up 6 clicks. The train departs the station and for the trouble all I get is this.

If it's Marilynne's photos that you asked about, the Florida East Coast Railroad also has a number of locomotives painted in FEC's classic scheme from their passenger train era in the 40s and 50s. They look fantastic.

I tried to find if each of the colors had different meaning. I sent FEC an e-mail and did not get a response. I know the blue/pink are breast cancer awareness. I think the red/yellow are heritage colors. They also come in red/white/blue, blue/yellow, blue/white (not sure if this is classic or blue/yellow)...

So, I did not have my camera with me yesterday and still wanted to capture this line of Ginko trees, So had to resort to my cell phoneIMG_0307 - Version 2.jpg
and then I heard a train comingIMG_0311 - Version 2.jpg
Not 10 minutes before I was at the other end of the park and could have shot the train head on. This might belong in the almost photo thread.

Wow, all four tracks still intact. That looks like a fine spot RON and the colors are awesome.
Thanks. These tracks are in daily use and run thru West Park on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. There are bridges at either end of this particular segment of tracks and the railroad wants to be able to run double decker trains . thru here and are demanding the City raise the 2 bridges to accommodate them at taxpayers expense. Corporate arrogance is alive and well here.
