Of historic note is Zoo Tower in Philadelphia, PA as shot from the dutch door of a train I was riding in July 1985. It's the largest tower in North America and was named Zoo because of its location adjacent to the Philadelphia Zoo. Built in 1935 and at its peak, had a 227 lever machine to control switches and signals. I think Zoo is still manned, but I am not completely sure. There are plans underway to remote it.

Thank you Ron. That's a beautiful depot and some nice shots. Just east of Oakland on the Cumberland Division stood PK Tower at Mountain Lake Park, MD. I'm not sure if it still stands or not. I took this 20 Years ago almost to the day - October 15, 1995!

Just drove thru that area last Friday. If I had known I would have stopped and looked for it. The area due East of Oakland is quite beautiful. Next time I am in that vicinity I will take a look.

Sometimes railroad towers aren't "towers". Here's NA Tower at Martinsburg, WV taken 04/02/1989. Several years ago the structure was still there, but no longer supporting tower functions.

Oh, all of these pictures were taken with my trusty old Nikon N2020 on Kodachrome with Nikkor glass. I must have run a bazillion frames through that camera in 25 Years of use and never had a second's trouble with it. Was there any doubt I'd go with my D5100 as my first DSLR? :)

Looks like the 17th street crossing will be getting some upgrades in anticipation of All Aboard Florida.

Plenty of survey and cable flag about.

I've been trying to get a shot of the red/yellow engine, but I always seem to miss it. I always seem to get the blue one.

I have seen two other paint schemes that I have yet to get a Breast Cancer paint job blue with pink bows and the Rail Road Safety. Both of which I have seen while setting at crossings and no chance to get a picture. Good luck with your endeavor.

I have seen the blue with pink ribbons, but can't get the camera off the bike fast enough. They should have some consideration and go slow when they see me.

Yesterday in Spartanburg, SC. The sun was in a good spot when I arrived, but hours later when the train pulled by, Mr. Sun had everything backllit. Oh well, at least I saw something go past. No shortage of horsepower here!
