Went out in search of the Blue Ridge Southern today with my D5100 and came home with these. First off a rural bridge in East Canton, NC:

Then arriving at NS's Asheville, NC Yard:

That's in Kent, Ohio (where I went to college) and the track is running along the Cuyahoga River. The Cuyahoga is one of the few major rivers that runs south, then north, and then south again.

That's a beautiful depot. Did a little research and the line with the train you photographed is former Baltimore & Ohio (now CSX) and the high line past the depot is former Erie (nee Atlantic & Great Western). I'm not sure who operates it today.

Went out this morning to find a train, but abandoned my spot trackside after a very long wait. You guessed what happened next. After walking 1/2 mile back to my truck, an airhorn sounded and I ran like mad to get back. Just made it with 15 seconds to spare! No. 7676 needs a bath.

Grab shot from today of a (smoky) NS crude oil train. I didn't have much time to set up and would have otherwise caught the lead unit in the light several cars back.

Another shot from today in an attempt to get a few more photographs of old classic Seaboard railroad signals as seen to the right. These are rapidly being replaced by CSX. I wish I could find a spot where the red signal light could be seen better.

I took this one last week. You can see one of the new signals set up to the right of the old signal. We've had the dreariest, overcast weekends here.

An old steam locomotive coaling tower and depot survive in Social Circle, GA. Former Georgia Railroad, now CSX. I waited a spell for a train, but without any luck.

When down to inspect the tracks work for the new All Aboard Florida. This engine was hauling gravel for the new tracks.

This morning seen at track work for the new All Aboard Florida. Not sure of its purpose, maybe a rail grinder?

Well, I hope this one will fit in, here. At one time, these rails would have been packed to the switches with cars full of coal, ore, and whatever happened to be coming into the International Docks. Still an active yard, but definitely a shell of it's former self, it serves Great Lakes freighters carrying coal and iron ore. It also occasionally serves as car storage, so you might see a mix of car haulers and lumber carriers, too. I may have paraphrased the photo's name...
