There were three trains stacked up. This and two freight trains stopped on the tracks for some reason. I was tempted to turn around and see what was going on..

It's October 1994 and we're at Hancock, WV looking at HO Tower. This (former B&O) line was one of the very last holdouts for manned towers in the U.S.. HO Tower no longer stands, hazing been razed in about 2004 I think.

On the same trip we also found the very remote Q Tower in Hardman, WV. The Operator (employee) at the tower was marking his last years before retirement and invited us up for a tour. This (like HO Tower) was an "armstrong" plant, where switches and signals were all connected to the tower by long lengths of pipe. He had my wife struggling to move the levers which required a great deal of strength! Sadly, Q Tower is gone too.

Oh that's VERY cool Ron -- a General Railway Signal Co. 24 Lever pistol grip interlocking machine. A fine shot of century old technology! I love this sort of thing. That bell on the right would sound with a loud PING! whenever a train entered a track circuit controlled by the machine.
