Noticed worker putting up two of these little yellow signs one right and one left of the tracks. Only the one to the right is still there. I was told these are speed restriction signs. Makes since since there was a derailment in the area.

So often it seems that serendipity serves up better photo opportunities than my carefully planned outings. Case in point was this morning as I made my way to a friend's house several hours away. I tend to follow railroad lines on my journeys and halfway there I stumbled into some unexpected action on NS:

Even got a "meet" and the nicely lit departing southbound train. Trackwork was my blessing, as the trains were running at slower speeds than normal. I'd have never been able to capture so many shots otherwise. :)

I should have continued working on the yard this afternoon, but I instead put down the rake and picked up the Nikon. Set up the tripod for this shot so as to keep the 55-200 centered and even remembered to switch off VR.
