I came on this fellow eating acorns; he let me know what he thought of the interruption

Here are a couple out the window today. My wife built what we call "The Car Wash", which is essentially a Milk Crate with a jug inside that she tosses stuff in for the squirrels. They have to climb through the handles, which keeps Blue Jays from stealing their stuff (Yes, we actually favor squirrels to birds on parts of our property - though they all fight it out elsewhere). We got 8" of fresh snow today, so the Mrs. filled up the jug and made them dig out an entrance. Sure enough!! (That's a very stale pecan, not a tongue)

If only they were a little less fuzzy...

@jake, thanks for showing those squirrels. I've never seen squirrels in snow.

As a kid, I used to think squirrels hibernated based on what we learned in elementary school. Perhaps some of them do, but around here they don't--at least not the variety that lives here. Do you have squirrels where you live?

The one squirrel we rarely see in the winter is the Red Squirrel that lives just behind our yard. I'm fairly sure it sticks to its burrow most of the winter. The greys? They're out all the time.
