Re: spiders

Golden Silk Orb Weaver (I think)

Never saw these in south FL before. This one was about 2 - 3 inches

They are quite plentiful up here at my end of the sunshine state. They can be huge. I love how they will rock their webs when they feel threatened!

See them all the time now. It's a bit scary when we use the bike path at one of the parks. They are right above our heads - tree to tree.

I worried more about the composition than about the spider.

Adding a linked to see if there's a quality difference between upload and embedded.

I snatched one last year and tossed it into a 25 gallon aquarium. She had built a web the next morning and I fed her crickets. I don't know how long they live, but she died around November.

It certainly looks like it's the same species (Leucauge venusta). There is another species (L. argyra) in that genus that can look very similar in some parts of the range. They do overlap in parts of their range, in those areas, you might have to examine the male genitalia under a microscpe for a postitive ID. Not knowing where this was taken, I'd guess that this is the same species (L. venusta). You can always Google them and check the range to be sure.
It's a great shot of a beautiful spider. I know these guys can be very shy sometimes.

Is this still an orchard spider with the abdomen whitish?
