I finally found this file! I am not sure what kind of spider this is, it is some kind of a garden spider. It was hanging out in one of our boxwoods one morning. By the next day it was gone. It was also rather tiny, about a inch from leg tip to leg tip. I shot this one handheld with the D700 and 55mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor

A immature Henztia mitrata from my back yard. These were shot with my Tokina 100mm macro, with the addition of a Raynox 250.

It would be interesting to know what happened to the legs. If I wander round the garden with a torch after dark its amazing how many assorted sizes and numbers of spiders there are. Maybe they fight for territory.
I read up about it. Spiders often self-amputate legs as a defensive strategy. Best of all and something I didn't even know is that they regenerate those limbs.
