Awesome shots! What lens are you using?

I dare you to shoot a Funnel Web that close! ;)

Haha, unfortunately there are no funnel webs up here for me to try, plus if I was that close one of their fangs would fill up the whole frame lol

I am using a 90mm Tamron Macro with Raynox DCR-250 close up filter, with home made diffuser and pop up flash on the D800E.

About the foam collar.

Very ingenious! Very impressive! So this is kind of a poor man's ring flash!
Thinking outside the camera! Cool!!!

Yes it's a lot cheaper than a ring flash and the foam burns your eyes when its flashed its that bright. I had it larger but more protective species like the paper wasps disliked it and stung it, i have been stung by them once before and that was enough... I have a SB-600 which no longer works via the 'shoe' but will work via TTL (something to do with salt lake and no base and me having a few drinks and pushing it into the salt laden dirt - doesn't mix apparently). But is still firing and I may set it up above or off to one side with a diffuser etc and see how that performs. But I am also thinking I need a longer lens as I am basically on top of these little critters :)

Us Americans think of you as "down under".

My Grandma used to call these "Money Spiders", she always used to say "dont hurt the money spider, or you will have bad luck with you money"
