I've been posting several raptor pictures I shot at the Center for Birds of Prey last week. Just thought I should include these two. You can't help but notice that this guy is missing an eye. He was a rescue at the center after being hit by a vehicle. Since he couldn't be released back into the wild with this handicap, they trained him for their flight demonstrations and outreach program. When shooting, I unconsciously tried to avoid pictures that included his empty socket, but after realizing what I was doing, decided to intentionally take a few including this profile. While deformities may make some folks uncomfortable, they are a fact of life, and part of the story of this beautiful bird, and the work they do at the center.
