Some sort of sphinx moth? It's taking forever to look on my p/c, but check out this site - https://www.insectidentification.or...isState=California&thisType=Butterfly or Moth

Best guess is Smerinthus ophthalmica, a sphinx moth found all along the CA pacific coast, but mainly in the San Francisco area. Need to see the wings spread to be sure, so next time give it a tickle. . .
