Re: Lets see your Moths & Butterflies

Here's a monarch mating dance - unfortunately I was shooting into the sun. Given how fast and unpredictable their movements are, I think the D5100 did a pretty good job of autofocusing. I had it set to AF-S, wonder if AF-C would have been better.

"Sumkinda Moth"
This is a regional insect specific to North Carolina.
Ask ANY Tar Heel what kind of bug this is and the answer will be...
Sumkinda Moth! :stupid:

Enjoy

Taken late afternoon. This little chap, unlike most others, didn't mind me getting up close.

Going back a bit, I found this in my archives. Since I can't catch a break with the weather, I'm posting these:

All taken with my D90 and the 18-200 Nikkor DX.

nice butterflies. You are only 150 miles due south of me so you have been getting the same weather patterns we have. Rain 4 days a week on average. we actually had a sunny afternoon and no rain all day.

Re: Lets see your Moths & Butterflies

We got some scattered rain today, but it was relatively dry. Of course, I had to be at work all day when the weather is nice. Overall, I believe we've had rain every day this summer save about 4-6 of them. And when it's rained, boy has it rained. But the rain has been good for the plants and wild critters.

At least our weekend forecast is for only a 20-30 percent chance of rain each day.

I know where Prattville is from my visits to Maxwell AFB.

Thanks Bill. I keep shooting and getting closer until he took off after this one.
