Sometimes you get lucky and they fly right in from of your camera as you are focusing on something else

Not quite a butterfly, but any time now. I came home to find half my monarchs had hatched out. Judging by how well you can see the wing colors, this one will probably be gone by the time I get home tomorrow.

A frittylari was floating about getting some water sips from the pea rock -- hard to find them not flitting madly

I believe that is a Monarch -- very easily confused. The Viceroy has a crossing bar on its hind wings.

Thanks wev. The crossing bar wasn't very clear in one of my books, but it is in the other.
