Post your Moon Shots

Sure thing. I remember when you joined the forum with your D3500 and was just starting to point your camera at the sky.
I remember you changed Avtar several times 🤡 Yes, I kept shooting into the sky (day or night) with fun, but had only scarce opportunities to enjoy a real DARK sky nightscape photographing... Now I have better camera and lens for it, but still, it is a rare chance to get a good site. I hope my aging won't deter my pursuit of this night sky shooting. I thought you had acquired even more complete photo gear for nightscape or astrophotography. I like to see and learn from some of your work if you would share. Thanks

I bought a star tracker, but I still need a new tripod and a new tripod head. Like you, I have to travel to get to dark skies, which are located in Twentynine Palms or further out in Anza-Borrego. I tend to have insomnia, so staying up usually isn't a problem.

Once we get some better skies, which should be during fall, I hope to set-up in my yard and get some Milky Way and DSO images. I really want to capture a globular cluster, which is the coolest thing I have seen in my scope.

I have to learn astro processing, which is complicated. If I get anything of use, I will certainly share it with you. I figure, we are all here to learn.

I took the camera and my 200-500 outside tonight to see if I could see the comet. Trees in the way. While I was out I remembered I've never photographed the moon with the new higher resolution sensor Z7ii camera. I would have to dig out the hard drive with my older pictures on it, but it sure seems like it has more sharp detail than the same shot on my Z5.

Here it is:

I have other moon shots w/ lunar surface. No problem w/ size. I just don't know how to do layers.
I also have another night time cloud shot where moon is not behind clouds, so that may be easier to try, but have to research how to do layers combining 2 photos.
A long time passed after this topic, and I had a chance to capture a moon image in the cloud like yours. I also shot some with lower exposure. The following example shows a blending image of two photos (use layer mask in Gimp). Still, some people prefer high-exposure ones.
