Nikon 18-140mm is, practically, a revamped 18-135mm - VR added, metal bayonet instead of plastic. Being such, it exhibits the 18-135mm's major problems: very high level of barrel distortion at 18mm (4 degrees, uncorrected), a high level of vignetting and a high level of CA. Nikon 16-85mm DX keeps the number 1 position among the "all-around" DX lenses, followed by 18-70mm (which, alas!, does not have a VR).
But, 18-140mm is still a nice lens for casual shooting...
Thanks for the info. I have the 16-85 and am quite pleased with it. Do not need anymore lenses for "casual" shooting. I need, if possible, to up my game. Should probably be looking harder at primes. The l05vr is still at the top of my wish list.

very easy to use and install. Half an hour and all done. Need to check with datacolor it shows a result at the end of the test, i do not know what it represents. to me the display looked a little more crisp.

i was originally going to order another sbh-100, but for another $25 i got this, it is now on my tripod and the sbh-100 is on my monopod, one plate fits all, i didnt think there would be much of a size difference, but it was larger.

So next purchase will be either ps elements/lightroom of a lens filter for the sun?

I took advantage of the rebates and got the above lens and the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II.
I have been shooting for about a week on the 18-200 and love it so far. It's heavier than I imagined though.

I finally pulled the trigger on a U2413 ultrasharp monitor. Dell had dropped the price to $435 (they drop the prices randomly for some reason) coupled with MT's "no sales tax" policy and Dell's free shipping, I couldn't resist. Frankly, I'm glad I did. The monitor is awesome and is capable of displaying 120% of the sRGB color gambit and 99% of the adobeRGB color gambit. I waffled back and forth between the 24'' vs. the 27'' but settled for the 24''. So far I'm happy with the choice but find myself wondering what the 27'' looks like.

That looks like a great monitor!

Now, you just have to get the rest of us one so we can view your pictures in the best light.

PM me for my shipping address.

It was my birthday earlier this week. Today we had time to go shop for my birthday present:

a monopod:

(Ok for a long time I couldn't get the watermark to work and now I can't shut it off!! I think my computer has a mind of it's own!)

Congrats!

Those are both wonderful lenses.

I was just wondering what the 80-400 didn't provide that required the purchase of the 70-200.

The 80-400 is a bit much in the studio, size wise and reach wise. I also didn't think I would miss the 10mm between the 24-70 and the 80-400 but I do, once in a while :)

The 70-200 is more appropriate (with a collar) and is a great "normal" walk around lens, it feels just right/nicely balanced.

Coming over from Olympus the combo is also lighter and smaller....

My niece asked me to take photos of her wedding next month. I'd been straddling the fence on this lens but this gave me the push to bite the bullet and order it...factory refurbished 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

$20 bucks says "no way" .

I looked in the d7000 and it looked like the dustbowl of the great depression in there .
The 7100 is the reason I got it though , it had a big hairball that was showing up in the sky at f16.

and this little marvel did the trick in less time than it took to get it out of the storage tube .
