While it does enable vertical shooting (with minimal exposure control) that is secondary for me. I have large hands and wanted to enhance the stature/grip of the camera body.

I also picked up an extra EN-EL14 battery so I have added to the number of shots I can take on a single charge. :)

I bought a similar one for my 5100 and for the same reason.... It really gave me a better feel/grip of the camera..

Bought a monopod Giottos MM-9750 4

And after consideration I went with this flash. I was looking at one for more money. But, I really didn't need a speed flash for my needs. The Sunpak RD2000N Ultra-Compact Digital flash met my needs fine and has great reviews. Between the two, I'm almost ready for our trip to Washington and then Maine later this year.

For some reason, unbeknownst to me at the time, my brother-in-law bought me remote flash triggers. I have to wait till I get to Kelowna, B.C. this summer to pick them up, but hey...I'm in no rush. :) He said they're made by Commlite, and the model is G430N. I'll have to learn how to use them, as I've never had the opportunity to use this kind of technology before. Only 6 months to go before I get my hands on them. :)

Nice, hope they do you a good job Jack. I know it is no rush, but could they not be shipped?? I would think cost would be minimal.. (but that is also a relative thing!)

Is that one of the slingshot 100 series? I've got the Slingshot AW 202 and really enjoy it. Used to think it would hold all of my equipment, but with my D3100 and 3 lenses, plus my cleaning pens, SB700 and battery chargers for the camera and flash batteries, it's started getting a little tight. Love how I can just rotate it around and slip the camera in/out with ease, though.

Trust me that eventually you'll not want a bag that holds everything you have. It would get so heavy that you wouldn't want to tote it very long. I'm convinced that thebest carry bag is the one that holds what you need for a task and not much else. When I tried my bag out, I tried a couple that were bigger empty and there was no limit. After picking the next-to-largest bag, the clerk at the camera store loaded it down and had me try it on. I quickly downsized!

The LowePro Slingshot series you have is a great bag, and it has many happy users. I think that it is also a great choice in a camera bag.

Yes it is. Thanks for the info. I was hoping I chose well. I'm only going to use to trasnsport my 3100 and two lenses and flash in the main area. I'm hoping my L820 will fit in the top storage area.

Got my new ballhead :) it's nice and sturdy. Will be interesting to see how this one locks in as my manfrotto one would move alot when I have my D800E and 80-400VR on it.

I have a 50mm/1.8G, 85mm/1.8G on the way. I exchanged those two for the Sigma 17-50mm/2.8 OS.
I was surfing on ebay last night ( couldn't stay away) and saw a Buy it Now for a Nikon 17-55/2.8 with two B&W 77mm filters for $720 so snapped it up quickly since it looked like a good deal :D

So I was cleaning out my wallet and found 3 old gift cards that still had cash on them. Since my mother taught me to never waste leftovers, I took myself off to Best Buy and got myself a present

And even better, they matched the TriCityCamera online price and I saved $35 off the sale price. Got some learning to do now.

I picked up a J3 and kit lens about 10 days ago and I've been on a spending spree ever since!

I've since added the 18.5 mm (50) 1.8, 30-110 (80-300), a CP filter, leather body case and the Thinktank mirrorless mover. A very small neat system. I should have added something for perspective, but the "big" zoom (equivalent to 80-300mm) is 2" wide by 3" tall!
