Heard a lot about these, local camera shop had them at the same price as any web based merchant, so decided I'd get one and mess around with it a bit. It looks a bit odd on top of the SB700, especially on camera, but a little minor testing (will upload those later, as I'm at work) showed pleasant results with a bright window as a background. Hoping it will help soften shadows when shooting with one flash in darker settings (will also test and upload those later).

For the record, I think those flash mount softboxes look a little odd too, but MUCH larger. Doesn't bother me either way, as long as it produces the results. ;)

Here's the latest tupperware (at least I'll call it that so the wife is more accepting?) purchase - The Gary Fong Collapsible Speed Mount Lightsphere.

(pic narfed off the web somewhere, but I'm sure he doesn't mind the advertisement)

I have picked one up on two occasions and put it back. Let us know what you think.

Interesting Pretzel. I'd like to see/hear the results, too, like Krs_2007 mentioned.

I have one too but i do not use it anymore since it is not a good fit with the sb900. It is a little bulky and can use up some of the limited space inside a camera bag.

I hear ya... they had one of the previous version, too. It was a little cheaper, and a little smaller on-flash, but not collapsible so this one earned my purchase due to the smaller space needed for storage. :)

Hmm ... how do you post training as a recent purchase? :D

After roughly 6 weeks of use with the D5300, I'm going to under take some formal instruction to help kick start my learning process. First class is this Sunday!

GOOD ON YOU! I have learned a lot by way of trial and error with my cameras, but all of that together can't compare to what I got out of (and kept) from even just my first class, much less the follow-up. Still quite a few to go, and I'm eagerly looking forward to each and every one!

Did you buy any books on how to use the D5300? That's the route I took with my D5100.

I've got a few books. Two for the camera itself; Nikon D5300 for Dummies and David Busch's Nikon D5300 Guide to Digital SLR Photography. I'm still reading the Dummies book, but will start David's next. I also got Scott Kelby's Digital Photography set of books for generalized digital photography info, as well as a book on Mastering Apple Aperture for the digital editing side of things.

Books are good, but I think I'll also benefit from some hands on time where I can ask questions without just doing the trial and error part of shooting. I'm doing that too, just looking for multiple avenues for learning.

I learned most of what I know from David Busch's Guide to the D5100....good one to start your learning! good luck!

Just trying to save you some money!

O.K. Today I went to my favorite shopping mall. My wife went to her hairdresser and I was walking around. I couldn't passing bye my Camera Store without stepping inside. I had in mind that I have a Nikon 16-85 mm so the Tokina 11-16 was not on my to buy list on first place. But the Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX was fixed in my mind.

I asked for the price went out and went into a Safe. After thinking a while I went back to the store and bought this:

So I wait all day for the UPS trunk and when it finally arrives and I get my package, it looks like this

Luckily, B&H used about 8 feet of bubble wrap and all is well
