Being now *very* disappointed in the Manfrotto 496-RC2 ball head, I took the plunge on a replacement.

This is the 3 Legged Thing AirHed 2 ball head and it had *better* rock my freakin' world... Hard.

I was looking at that one as well. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.

How much is it? I still use my Manfrotto 496 RC2 without any problems so far, but a better ball head is always good to look at. :)

It arrives on Monday... I'll try to remember to let you know how I like it.

While I like the "snap in" feature of the 496', and while I can't call it a "defect" per se, I'm finding the secondary lever is not operating as it should or, I guess you could argue, it's not operating as I would like it to. Further, and in all fairness, it is something that could be "corrected" by paying close attention to the secondary lever each and every time I mount/dismount my camera. That being said, it bothers me how easy I found I could get the QD plate to release completely without having to engage the secondary release lever.

The AirHed uses an Arca-Swiss type mount... Maybe it's all just a matter of what you're used to?

Mat cutter suppose to be a simplified way to layout and cut photo mats. We shall see. Some one wanted a link to this companies site but I don't know how to do that but here is there e-mail( w.w.w.altosezmat.com)View attachment 72830
Have tested this today and find it very easy to use and has an excellent manual and instructional DVD. The actual cutter is better and cuts cleaner than any I have used. Will probably send for their t-square guide next.

Some more (way overpriced?!!!) Black Rapid gear on the way.

Because my new ball head uses a slotted screw. Grrr...

Blackrapid-Wrist-Strap-CR-2-6.jpg

Another Black Rapid wrist strap... I do love, LOVE, LOVE these things!

And LensBling Lens Caps because they're ZOMG Awesome™! Makes finding the right lens in your bag a breeze!
If you didn't know you need some of these... Now you know! About $8 a pop at B&H.

I love the wrist strap, the screw doesn't work with my plate, so need to find a plate that it will work on. I have the arca type, but the screw isn't long enough.

Pat, remember the sound when the second four-barrel of dual quads kicked in? That was the first thing I thought of when I punched it.
