TwistedThrottle, seeing your issues getting a refund from Nikon, it is no surprise they are loosing customers!

Ya but I’m super happy with my lens. I didn’t like how things went down with Nikon and I’m sure they didn’t either. They made it right as soon as they could and I was able to go get my lens somewhere else. Sucks, but it coulda happened to Canon or Sony as well. I like Nikon and have no regrets sticking with them.

I decided to get a gimbal head for times when I want to use my longer, heavier lenses and not handhold them. Since I don't anticipate using it much, I really didn't want anything expensive. So after reading many reviews, I ordered this one - Yelangu A17. At some point, I might need to remove the original lubricant and replace it, but I've read that about many of the lower cost gimbals.

That looks like an excellent price. Maybe you can give us all a review once you have had a chance to play with it.

The gimbal arrived this morning. It's heavier than I thought although Adorama didn't have its weight listed. Amazon has it listed at a little over 3 pounds. Initially I was going to mount this on a monopod, but due to its weight, I might be better off using a tripod - at least until I get used to it.

The temp here has been below freezing. Right out of the box, it is very stiff. But I expected it would be after reading some of the reviews. And that means I'll have to repack the lubricant. The other day I came across a video somewhere that tells how to do this, but if anyone has a video they've used to replace the lubricant, I'd appreciate knowing what works effectively.

I have an AF-S 35mm f/1.8G ED FX en route and arriving Friday. :) I already have the DX version and really like it.

I have the AF-D 35mm f/2 and it's nice enough, but I was itching to buy a new lens so an upgrade seemed like a good idea (though it's probably totally unnecessary!).

Really, a proper swivel-type monopod head looks like this. Personally I need a third hand to hold a monopod, support the camera, and manipulate a ball-head.

You can leave the knob a bit loose and track up-down easily, and rotate the entire monopod to track side-side.

The thing with a ball head as a gimbal substitute on a monopod (or tripod for that matter) is that you don't need to hold the monopod or manipulate the ball head. I'm using it with one hand on the camera and the other on the lens. There are a number of instructive videos on YouTube.

I also wanted a monopod solution and purchased this combo from B&H.
I hike a lot and this particular monopod also serves as a nice walking stick with compass.

This came from UPS via my local brick an mortar camera store. The Weather has been kind of ugly so I have not been able to get out. It is supposed to improve next week so I should have a chance to play with it more. I have to say taking some photos in the house using the Z 70-200 f2.8 it looks good. It is much lighter than the 200-500 f5.6 Nikon. I am cautiously optimistic.
