I will bring it and try it but am unsure at how it will fare. I am thinking that it may be alright or it my not be lol only trial and error will tell. I will most likely test it out on anything that I can find, even some people if I can find anyone interested. I think I may be able to get away not using it but then again it could be good for indoors at night. No harm in having it.

Is it worth getting a longer lasting battery compared to the original battery? That will require using two different chargers when on travel.

I think so. But then again my D600 uses the same smaller battery as my D800E. The EN-EL18 charger is a double charger so it pays to get two EL18's. Also you could physically not charge the smaller battery and just keep it in the camera by setting the EL18 as main battery, you get a good life span out of them and the extra frames per second are great.

Most battery chargers can handle higher capacity batteries, it will just take longer to charge them is all. Double check before you purchase another one.

They are totally different sizes and honestly performed well in the 2 months I was in Africa Also charging the EN-EL18's is a lot faster...

Well I was going to wait another month or two to get the D7000 or D7100 but I found a D7100 w 16-85mm lens in open box for a good price so I decided to get it. I like the D5100 but I just like the feel of the slightly larger camera better and have full control at my fingertips...
