THAT is a beautiful plant. What is it?

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that the only two flowers I can identify are roses and tulips (actually probably a couple others, as well.) I can confidently assure you that the plant in the above photo is neither a rose or a tulip.:D:D

Actually I wish I knew the names of some of the plants I see around here. I better buy a field guide.

I thought it looks kinda like a banana tree. Could you post a shot of the leaf please?

I don't think it's a banana tree. Our best view of the leaves is going to be in the first photo. I don't think I'll be able to get back to it again.

I was taking photos on the other side of town and the guard to a gated community invited me in to take some pictures of plants behind his guardhouse. I think that the area where it was planted was far too small for a grown banana tree and it was intentionally planted as part of their garden.The plant in the photo was probably eight inches tall.
