The first snake this spring. It is a Blue Racer about one meter long. Too dang fast to get closer for a macro snout shot. Later when I catch one napping in the sun.
Yes she loves to be outside. I wanted her to have a "cat" life even if there are risks. We adopted her and were her fourth family (two owners moved from their apartments and left her behind & the third was a foster family). She had a litter of seven kittens when she was barely still a kitten herself. By the time we got her she was already a pretty savvy outdoor cat and out of her element being cooped up indoors. Of course, she gets let in and out (and in and out) as many times a day as she wishes!
@Bourban Neat - this was unexpected! Caught while hiking in Canyonlands, Utah. Until I got closer he was just lying still next to some small dead limb, looking very much like just another stick. I believe this is also a racer snake. He did slither away rather quickly!
While we were away for a long weekend there were torrential rains back home for 3 or 4 days. This is what we found in our yard. I call it: Mushroom & Escargot!
Good morning. I just found this forum. This is my first venture into photography, and I know that I have no clue. I picked up a D5500 last week, along with the 18-55 & 55-300 kit. After reading about the lenses, I figured that they are "good enough" to start with. I'm hoping to learn as much as I can here. I'm hoping photography will be a nice mental distraction from my daily work stress.
@IntrusDave - that's a nice shot! Do you know what kind of bird it is? I am finding the 55-300mm to be a very good lens and the 18-55mm is nice for its compactness!
Thank you! It's a Baltimore oriole, no joke! It's a male. They are normally mating pairs, and really pretty rare in California. I feel lucky to have him as a resident in my trees.
