I did a second attempt at that statue today upping the "drama" in post. Still not perfect but a good exercise using the brush.

Thanks. For B&W the brush tool in LR is phenomenally good. It allows you to paint with exposure and thus enables you to add or lower the contrast everywhere you like and still adjust them all using the sliders. You can add several brushes and layer them all creating more nuance or changing parts dramatically. The trick is to paint, not to color.

It has an eraser too should something be too much.
