I was wondering what to call those things... No I was not using any filter... Would that make a difference?

Filters might make a difference.

Its called moire I think. It is caused by the sensor not being able to resolve the small repetitive detail on the subject. Lots of cameras have filters built in to the sensor to prevent this happening. Not sure if the D7000 has one or not. Not seen such a striking example as your shot though.

I'll have to see if I can at least fix it in post production now that I know what that moire slider is for. Thanks!

Just tried a few of the removing moire tutorials on your shot (hope thats OK ) and I can't get any of them to work. They might work if you start with the original colour version remove the moire first and then convert to B&W at the final stage.

Ok... I'll have to see... I shoot in RAW so hopefully it will allow it.

Hmmmm... Gonna have to look at a tutorial on how to make it work in lightroom... or I could just go back and try shooting it again.
