It was odd. The juvenile grabbed it from the lake and tossed it on the grass, then walked away. It looked already dead. The older one picked it up, flipped it around for a while, then dropped it back on the grass. The egret just gave it a poke before being run off. When I left, it was still lying there, but the birds were back at the lake edge fishing. It was gone when I went by this morning, so maybe a raccoon didn't mind expired fish for dinner.
