I just purchased a Tamron 100-400mm lens and am interested in photographing wildlife, especially birds of prey.
I’ve seen incredible work on this thread and can only hope to have the talent that you all display!
Any helpful pointers would be appreciated.

Good light and get close enough to fill the frame. Also focus on the eye and use the lowest ISO and shutter speed possible. Look at the photos you like the best on this forum and look at their EXIF data. Another thing you can do is bring the birds to you. Andy and I feed our birds and set up a few perches for them to land on. Soon you will figure which perches they like the best and you can aim your camera at the perch and wait. I hope that helps some.

Thanks Woody. Right after, it took off after a bluebird and nearly knocked off my hat flying over
Not the most productive of days at Sweetwater Wetlands Preserve but a lot of it is my fault, I went at midday. Early morning and late afternoon is better because the birds are more active in the cooler temperatures. I did managed to get a few shots though.
This young male Anhinga had his throat pouch out hoping to attract a mate. To use a line from a Byrds (pun intended) song...…. "It's the time of the season for loving!" D850, 300mm f/2.8 ED IF AIS Nikkor
This Double Crested Cormorant was panting heavily. It was already 88º here in North Central FL at midday and these poor birds were already hurting. I guess with the dark plumage didn't help much in the brutal sun. D850. 600,mm f/4 ED IF AIS Nikkor
