I have been scouting them for a while, learned all their perch locations, it took me some time to get this close, was set up at the edge of the pond with high grass next to me, before setting up, you need to have all your camera settings in check, and your movement must be smooth, you will only get a few shots of before they spot you, once you are spotted, they will not come back to the location for the rest of the day. The ones I shoot are always active between 10AM and 12AM, then again later in the afternoon.
John_F. Great kingfisher shots. I rarely get close enough to them to get the picture.

Last week one perched 10 feet above me for a few minutes. The shots I posted the bird was 10-15 yards away. D500 and Nikon 200-500mm.

This bird feeder isn't all that big. The largest birds I've ever seen on it prior to now were Grackles. And even they don't fit all that well. The pole is leaning because I backed into it with the rider mower and snapped it off close to the ground. It's held well with a clamp. But the pole is rusted inside so a new pole and feeder are ready for whenever I have the time to replace them.
