Since you're down south, track down some duck hunters and see if they'll hook you up for a day shooting ducks, marsh hawks, and skimmers. I wish I was doing photography when I lived in Texas, there were so many opportunities to get unbelievable shots. I don't know if the birds feel an area is safe with duck decoys out, but I've have skimmers come by within feet of a decoy spread. It would be worth your time to track down a duck hunter. They carry a DU sticker on their vehicles and are easy to identify. I don't know if your area has them but black bellied whistling ducks would make awesome pics in late august when their young are just starting to fly.

Not many duck hunters in suburbia any more.

We do have BBWD's and right now, one White Faced Whistling Duck.

What's with the 50-500mm? Is it better than the Tamron?

I had a need to buy something :D

No the Tamron will not work on the V2 so i bought the 50-500 for the V2 but as i prefer to keep the V2 @ ISO 400 or less it can only be used on good days and i had to test it didnt i,after saying that i must admit ime pleased with the first results as the light was not all that good.
