Since you're down south, track down some duck hunters and see if they'll hook you up for a day shooting ducks, marsh hawks, and skimmers. I wish I was doing photography when I lived in Texas, there were so many opportunities to get unbelievable shots. I don't know if the birds feel an area is safe with duck decoys out, but I've have skimmers come by within feet of a decoy spread. It would be worth your time to track down a duck hunter. They carry a DU sticker on their vehicles and are easy to identify. I don't know if your area has them but black bellied whistling ducks would make awesome pics in late august when their young are just starting to fly.

This Australian Yellow Helmeted Honey Eater was very friendly yesterday. It liked the lens of my 7200 as a perch. Had to use the iPhone to grab the quick shot.

Second photo is one I took of the bird using a Canon as a perch. At least I could use my D7200 for the shot.
