I think this is a Downy Woodpecker. Merlin gave Downy and Hairy as choices.

Looking at the relative beak length, I would say Hairy, but without them side by side, it is tricky to tell them apart.

Here's another shot and the beak looks smaller. Also, it was about fifteen feet up, but it appeared to be about seven inches long.

Edit: Merlin only gave Downy as the choice, not both Downy and Hairy like the other shot.

With that one, it is definitely Downy. We usually have both, but this year its all Nuttal's, which are at least easier to sort. Nice shots.
