Now I just need to work on not using Auto white balance all the time...so much blue... (Top photo is original, Bottom is White Balance correction with GIMP)

If its OK to comment , on my screen I think the upper shot looks appropriate for white balance but you might add a little brightness instead of warming it.
( I do have my own soft proofing issues but .. I just leave the camera in daylight mode , id ont know what advantage there is in picking white balances ahead of time, is there any? )

Yes. I have a pair that arrive every year in March and stay until I open the pool in May. Gives me some great pool and BIF photo ops.
