I was wondering why the image quality was what it was, considering the gear involved.

The image does appear to be overexposed and focus is off.

No disrespect intended.

None taken. The light was not ideal and I find the d500 tends to overexpose with auto iso. As for focus, he was in constant movement in every shot -- I probably should have pushed the speed more.

How about using exposure compensation ?

Or AF-C ?

Or iso 2000 in A mode, the D500 can easily handle that ?

May I ask, what is your normal processing procedure ?

Always use AF-C; M, spot metering, spot focus, iso auto 3200. I do use EC when the sun is bright (and could have used it here), but seldom have much time to fiddle.

My processing is usually very simple (being a lazy sort with a very old computer). I use Faststone and generally just crop, fiddle the shadows/highlights/contrast if needed, and resize for posting.
